Big Sur

The Big Sur region lies about 20 miles south of Carmel, where the Santa Lucia Mountains meet the Pacific Ocean. Often called one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, the breathtaking views, serenity and magical feeling of Big Sur are hard to describe – they must be experienced first-hand!

Accommodations in Big Sur vary from high end cliff-side resorts to cozy campgrounds nestled among the majestic Redwoods. One of such campgrounds, which also happens to be one of our favorites, is Big Sur Campground & Cabins. Cozy camp sites, many of which are right on the river, super friendly staff, a cute children’s playground right among the Redwoods and a basketball court are just some of the reasons that make this camping spot a perfect family destination. Campsites have tables and fire pits, and some offer hookups.

There are so many activities to choose from in this beautiful coastal region! Ocean, river, waterfalls, forest, hiking trails, art galleries and a variety of delicious local dining spots, from road-side pubs to high class 5-star restaurants with the sweeping views of the Pacific – Big Sur has it all! Wake up to the relaxing sound of the Big Sur River and walk or drive to the River Inn for a delicious breakfast. Visit the store just outside the Inn’s restaurant and gaze at some wonderful local art. Then drive yourself a few miles south and spend the afternoon at one-of-a-kind Pfeiffer Beach: sit back and watch the waves crash against the scenic cliffs, find some stone art on the beach (or create some yourself!), or wonder off and explore the hills right off the beach, with their cozy sandy trails and fairy tale looking trees, (note: large RVs will not fit on a narrow road that leads to Pfeiffer Beach – smaller vehicles are best.) Don’t feel like spending the day at the beach? Well, hiking, shopping, visiting the art galleries or may be even the local library could all be good alternatives! Check out http://wikitravel.org/en/Big_Sur or http://www.bigsurcalifornia.org for a variety of things to do in Big Sur! Then, finish the day over a delicious meal... Feeling fancy? Try the Sierra Mar restaurant at the Post Ranch Inn or

The Restaurant at Ventana at Ventana Inn and Spa. For a more casual and delicious dining experience, stop by the Fernwood Tavern or Big Sur River Inn. Or cook a family meal over a campfire, gazing up at the beautiful Redwoods with the Big Sur River rippling in the background. Either way, you are bound to have an unforgettable experience!

And may we remind you... If you don't feel like driving a motorhome or towing a camper to Big Sur, the Village RV can deliver it and park it there for you! Just bring your car and enjoy your time of relaxation!
